Yet Something Different

Last week I received yet another guitar, a Collings 290. It's basically Colling's take on a Gibson Les Paul Special, solid mahogany body with P90 pickups. This is my first Gibson styled electric, but I like it.

I sat down, plugged it into my Traynor YCV20WR, and started playing Perkin's Matchbox and Honey Don't. Followed those up with some Johnny Horton, Johnny Rivers, Buck Owens, and CCR. I've also played it through my Victoria Victoriette. Great tone through out both amps, but the Victoriette (6L6s) holds a slight edge.

It's taken some time to get use to the fret board and the strings (it came with .11s). In addition, the 290s fit and finish is equal to or exceeds any of my other guitars, including the Rics. But then again, I would not have expected anything less from such a small shop as Collings.

I'm going to be jamming with some friends this afternoon. I'll have the the 290 and 660/12 with me, along with the Traynor and Janglebox.

While I haven't shot any pictures of it myself, but here are some pics that the dealer took before he shipped it to me:

Very nice looking piece from the shops photos. So now that you've had a chance to break her in, still loving it? :D
