Good luck with that. Maybe you can start a forum too.

Remember, Paul is pushing 70. I know a lot of guys in their 50's who even balk at playing a 10 pound guitar for 2 hours. The Hof is less than 5 lbs. and has always served him well (especially using top notch modern digital technology and expert soundpeople).

I agree that the 4001 is heavier than the Hofner, but where you lose me on that argument is that he straps on two (2) different Les Paul's. Those aren't exactly light weight.
He simply uses the Hofner becuase it is his Beatle bass. And there is nothing wrong with that. It would just be nice if he played the 4001 once or twice.

I guess he can handle the Les Paul's for a couple of songs here and there,...but Les Paul's and the Rick for most of a gig might be too much. But I don't know, maybe weight has nothing to do with it. I'd like to see him play the Rick instead of the Les Pauls for sure.

I joined! It would indeed be swell to see him with it once in a while.

I imagine if Sir Paul asked, a significantly lighter in weight alder, or chambered 4001might be obtainable. . . .

Yeah, but people want to see THE RICK,...not just any Rick. But I suppose 98% of those at his concerts couldn't even name the model he plays....

I think you're missing my point. It isn't all weight. Its image. He could play a couple of tunes, especially his old Wings songs on the Rick. No one is asking him to play it for the entire concert. Just a song or two. At least that is all I am asking.

Word has it one was already made for him, along with a 4004C.

My opinion (for what it is worth) is that Paul just likes the Hofner bass better than his others and that's why he plays it. Remember he played the Rickenbacker almost exclusively in the 70s and quite a bit in the 80s until Flowers in the Dirt. I would have loved to have seen the Rickenbacker in concert this summer, but I was okay without it. I wonder what kind of condition it is in these days.
