New G5120 on the way......

Ordered it today from MF. $595 shipped. Case was $85. And they found an old $25 credit, too. I played a couple at the local music store and the tuners looked really cheap, so they're definitely going to be replaced. I'll need to do some testing before I decide on TV Jones pickups.
I also played a Strat that didn't chew up my fingers. Maybe next year on one of those. Anyone own or played a Taylor solid body electric? Tom

Hi Peter, I think that my journey might end up being a great cure for insomnia. I'll probably start with just the tuners. If I butcher that, the journey is either over or will be put into the hands of someone who knows what the heck they are doing. I already have a couple of questions about best prices for components, cost versus bang-for-the-buck for each upgrade, etc.
Thankfully, there is a lot of expertise on this forum. BTW, in thinking ahead to the next purchase, it's a toss up between a Strat (or Tele) and a Taylor Standard solid body, which I just tried for the first time last weekend. The Taylor is a beautifully made, nice playing guitar. I didn't try it amplified, so not sure about how it actually sounds. It's a lot more $$ than the Fenders, but might be worth it. Thanks, Tom

Tom,
Taylors are very well made guitars, no question, although their acoustics are not to my personal taste. Give those pickups a good shakedown and if you like them, go for it. You'll never have trouble finding a Strat or Tele later, if you get the bug again.
PS Enjoy your Gretsch!

Thanks Kira, I have a Taylor acoustic and like it very much. They, Like RIC, seem to have a top notch quality control system in place. The only problem I have with them is the amount of $$ that you pay for the incremental improvements; rosette, inlay, wood, tuners, etc. I have a 416 limited and the difference in price between mine and say, a 700 or 800 series is large. I know, I know...... labor.
That Taylor Standard solid body was a very nice looking instrument and it was easy and comfortable to play. More research is required. I'm hoping that 'just one more' guitar will cure the bug. My wife and co-workers aren't so sure. Tom (Hmmm, maybe a Martin D-7, too

)

You'll never cure the bug.

But you can ease the suffering temporarily.
