Monty gets a run!

It had been many months since I pulled out my Monty Brown 350v63 so I took it to rehearsal Thursday last week on a whim. I'd forgotten how great this little monster is to play (light, sweet neck, great geometry) and how fantastic it sounds with the bridge HB.

So I took the plunge and played it at a pub gig last Sunday with one of my bands, "Gravy Train". The gig was great (our lead singer Silvia was brilliant!) and I received a number of positive comments from other players about the Rick...... very nice!!

I'm a little embarrassed to say that the PRS and Strats have been getting all the action lately but Monty will now be featuring heavily. We did blues, Beatles and good old fashioned rock 'n roll and the little fella shone though! I fact you can see an AM DLX Strat to my left as a backup.......... it never even got a sniff!

A few pics. Please excuse the facial expression.... I had a spare pick between my teeth. Why, I don't know............

Not our usual backline, BTW. Drums and amps supplied by the pub.

Things are going well..... a couple of gigs a month with this band and the odd one with my other band, "Fine Wines".

Life is good............

Great pics Howard! You looked like you were having a good time!

Glad to see that well traveled Monty being played out. It is a great guitar and should do everything you need with that HB at the bridge. I still use my 350 every week, although I have been using the 620 more. I actually have my first non-Rick guitar purchase of this millenium being built, a Dingwall G1, along with a 360 project in with Paul slated for later on this year.

I should be getting the Dingwall G1 around November. 100% Custom made, chambered tele-ish styling, Bigsby and TV Jones equipped, neck profile just like my 350. Sheldon Dingwall is more known for his fan-fret basses, but the G1 is his return to guitars. Standard frets, not fan style. We'll have to see where it fits in, but the prototype I played was incredible.

I sure don't see giving up a lot of Rick time though. I love playing them way too much.

Cheers mate,

That was a nice looking set up Howard. I bet the Marshall backline sounded great. Your Monty is a great guitar, no weight at all on the old shoulder blades.

Great stuff. Keep the pics coming! :)

The wireless connection that I'm using at work at the moment, made the first picture load very slowly and for a second, I thought Aitch was playing the accordion!

Very cool, Aitch, good to see you and Monty in action! :)

Great pictures!

But are you plugged into a marshall????
Ladies and gents, we need to get this boy an education!

Seriously though, looks like you're all having fun. :D

The Marshalls were not our choice, Rob. They're pretty gutless little things.... thankfully they were miked up!

Would have much preferred to use our own gear but the pub likes to limit the changeover time between bands. Switching from left to right handed drummers is bad enough!!

Cheers mate,
Thanks, Dean..... it was only a 45 minute set but we went hell for leather.... had a ball!!

Glad to hear you're still heavily into the Ricks. Looking forward to hearing and seeing all about the Dingwall.

Thanks to you too, Melibee...... brings back great memories of Grand Marais and "Can't Let Go".
