I have a friend with fairly large hands, and he's been lusting after a 350V63-12. have they made any with a nut width of .170 or more? He would really like to get one, but he doesn't want to drop finger on it and press down 3 strings at a time. Says it ruins his whole day when that happens......

I suspect you mean 1.700, as .170 is about 3/16 of an inch...

As far as I know there were no wider-necked 350s made.

Thanks Paul, how about a 340-12? Were there any wider necks on those?

There is a discussion of the neck (specifically, the fretboard) width of various 12-string models here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=391833&start=0&hili ... +12+string;
- it looks like a very few 360/12s have been made with wider necks.

Even fewer have been made post-factory - one forum member converted a 380L to a 12-string - photos etc. here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=392360&hilit=380%2F12.

I believe Jingle_jangle can do a conversion for you, too. Otherwise, your only "off the shelf" model with a wider neck is the 660/12.

Thanks, Clement. Currently converting a 380L to a 12er... I'll show it once it's finished.

Wider neck is available on the 660/12 only. It's got the same small body as the 350/12, so give that one a whirl.

Yeah, the 660 neck is plenty wide.

Some things to consider in the "wider nut" discussion as respects 12-strings is the spacing between the pairs and how close together are the strings in the pair. I believe Paul W. has commented on how to best cut a 12-string nut for maximum string spacing and getting the paired strings close. Cutting a 12-string nut in this way can help solve problems of fingers pressing down on too many strings. Also, the RIC Boutique (and authorized RIC dealers) carry a 12-string nut that's pre-scored for optimum string spacing on a "standard" width Rick 12-string neck.
