Possibly a good deal on a fixer-upper 4001

No affiliation. But for $799 BIN this could be a nice restoration project. Or leave it like this, I've seen worse mods.
Seller says 1970; it definitely isn't. Thick horns and 4001 TRC could indicate late 70's or early 80's.

Wonder what those PU's are? And the unusual pickguard to cover the original route's?

That's not a bad looking mod. I'd play it the way it is. Sort of reminds me of Joshua's white 4001FL mod, which is also one of the better mods.

I was eyeballing it too...
I couldn't tell if those were the stock pickups or not.
Someone put in a minimum bid, and the 799.00 BIN is gone.
It will probably sell for more than that now!

It's got the shedua stripe, wasn't that phased out ion the '70's?

The shedua strip was phased in during '72 IIRC and lasted till the 4001 was discontinued.

Yeah. I would think $799 for that guy would probably turn out to be a good deal; looks like the bass may need very little work if any. I ended up paying $750-800 for my 4001FL (I can't recall the final amount anymore) and I probably put more work into it than I would have with this bass. There were a handful of tiny flaws that the seller didn't photograph so I got a chunk of the $1,000 BIN back from that sale in compensation for undocumented issues. This bass may be similar--not a lot of photos, actually less than the 4001FL had and less detail. Nevertheless now that it's not a $799 BIN I bet it's going to go for upwards of that.

Still can't figure why someone would place the opening bid and

OH=Aug 75...I asked for the numbers.....prob has the super thin 756 neck....Love those!!! I imagine this bass roars even with the goofy pick guard...I would play it!
