Hey guys -

I'm starting a job fixing up a 4001, and need to know the proper thickness of the neck & body binding so I can put in the order. I'm guessing it's either .020" or .060". Little help?

Also, were the 4001's in 1972 finished with CV? If so, what's a good brand to use which will emulate the same results as what RIC was using back in the day? I've seen ads for CV that say "NON-YELLOWING" & "CRACK RESISTANT" but that's obviously not what I'm looking for, I'm guessing!

Body binding: .060" thick by 1/4" wide, nominally. Neck binding: .040 X 3/16" wide, again, nominally. The neck binding on these older basses is fitted square and then scraped and shaped to complete the neck contour. So, it end up different on every bass. Some are paper-thin.

The closest CV available today is from Sherwin-Williams. It requires a spray gun with stainless steel construction, as the catalyst is an acid.

Sands very easily. buffs nicely. Meant for interior use, and has some UV additives. How it's gonna yellow I can't say. Probably not very much.
