Of all the colors available, this one is probably my favorite, but who in their right mind is going to pay this price. Even internationally, they can get them much cheaper? What would drive a listing price such as this.......besides greed!

priced to sit.
the aggressive overpricing techniques used to edge up overall prices the past few years ain't gonna fly in this economy.

There are some people who just seem to go crazy for Blueburst so you never know... I know I paid more for my 4003FL (1959.00) than I did for my other 4003s that were also bought new and in the same time period, because it appeared to be the Last of its Respective Mohicans at the time. Now it's clear a few have surfaced for interested parties to buy, but I also don't regret going ahead and paying extra for what is by far my favorite bass.

When did you get your 4003FL, Joshua? I got my '08 4003FL in February 2009 for a Make an Offer price of $2000. I offered $1,800 (it was lightly used), but the seller indicated that since FLs were no longer being made (
no longer now being a term of indefinite duration), they wouldn't go below $2,000. Back then, although the recession had hit, prices for new 4003s were still generally closer to $2,000 than $1,800.
So, I probably overpaid a bit, but I'm not really concerned about that.

pithespy prices always seem way too high. I honestly don't know how they'll move 'em. Fortunately, I haven't been tempted by anything they've listed. If color is not a concern, you can find brand new (with warranty) 4003s for less than half this price. I think they are looking for fools.

That one's been there a long time and I'd thought it would poison the BBr avaiabality, for those waiting to see if it'd move or not wanting to post theirs too much lower. But patiently waiting got me one at a much more realistic
price.

Agreed, but for some reason, they SELL some RICS at CRAZY PRICES! I can only assume, they are overseas buyers.
For a good long stretch, the COY basses were bringing a good $400.00 to $500.00 above their standard color counterparts on Ebay. Every now and then, I see a Monty Brown sell for substantially more then the standard colors.

I'm certain that Pithespy's buyers are from overseas.

There is one on Ebay that a store is selling as clearance. A 2009 4003 mint. The bidding starts at 1399 with 45 dollars shipping. No bids yet, so I sent them an offer of 1650 shipped!

I'm sure the guy will probably be offended, but since he started the bidding at 1399, then he was willing to take 1399 for the bass, so I did not see my offer as outlandish! Granted, he's probably going to end up getting much more than that, but it never hurts to ask. All they can do is have a good laugh and say NO!
As a matter of fact, in my early days of searching for the right acoustic electric guitar fit for me, there was an Ibanez on Ebay for a BIN price of I believe $400+ OBO. For kicks and giggles I offered the guy $200.00 and he accepted!

He was in a pinch and needed cash. So.................you never know!

July 2008ish... I had reserved it so I got it right after it was delivered. I had to pay the full "Big Box Retailer" price because that was the cheapest I could find; you may have had to pay just a little more because by the time you bought yours the species had officially gone extinct, whereas I reserved mine towards the very end of their existence.

That bb is sweet. My other fav is the steelglo that was on the Ric outlet last month.
I look at all the other guitar companies and there is so much going on as far as interesting wood graining, staining, colors, etc. It is disappointing that Ric is so limited. When Ben buys out his old man, he's going to have to grow the company to pay off the debt. One way to do that would be to offer custom ordering with an on-line template with colors, styles, etc. Orders go right into the manufacturers computer, and it gets done just like a stock item. That type of manufacturing is pretty much going to replace manufacturing as we know it. I think athletic shoes are already going that route.
