best pod/preamp?

I'm looking for a smaller setup to use at home for practice. Headphone output with iPod input for play-along. Maybe something I can use with a live setup as well. My local music stores just don't have very much to touch and hear. It doesn't have to be complicated, but I'm looking for something reliable with a solid sound. Any Ideas?

If you can find a used
Raven Labs PHA-1, that would be an ideal way to go.

I'm very happy with my Korg Pandora PX5D. It has an input for Ipod etc. to play-along but you can also use it as a latency free usb-soundcard or as a standalone preamp and multi-effects-box. It comes with plenty digital amp-, cab- and effect-emulations that sound quite convincing with my little orange-combo. Haven't tried it with a professional live setup but I guess it's rather made for the purpose of practicing. Another nice feature is an onboard rythym machine. Still I found it a bit annoying to pay extra for an ac-adapter that wasn't included but you can power the unit with batteries or via usb-cable as well.

I use a Line 6 Pod X3 for both bass and guitar. It doesn't have an ipod input but I have it connected to my pc soundcard (choice of usb, coaxial digital or normal audio output) so I can play along that way. Anyway it sounds great and there is huge scope for tweaking the amp and effect models.

EBS MicroBass II Bass Preamp Pedal
Fantastic pedal with pro-level build quality - works equally well as a recording interface, a live pre amp, as a 2nd and 3rd channel for your existing amp, or just as an awesome headphone amp for practice.

I was using a bass pod xt live for a while and loved it for something to use at home with headphones. it can also be used as a DI as well. I used it live once but felt it was unnecessary what with owning a HiWatt head and custom 1x15 cab and all

I'm using a first generation bass pod and love it. I use it live as an alternate preamp to my Church's bass rig and for recording demos at home. It's simple, robust and sounds great - and can be found ultra-cheap as it is several generations old.

The issue is no ipod compatability...

Live I only use my Hiwatt and my custom Fender cab. I get the British clank best that way you know? The Foxton sound I mean. Not that I'm trying to aim for his sound at all, its just the tone I get. The XTLive is a great pedal/preamp/di/amp modeler though. Its also really cool cause you can usb it to the pc or mac and update its software.
