I heard this long before the original Johnny Kidd and The Pirates' version and always loved it, used to be a must for the local garage bands. The band was actually Chad Allen and the Expressions, Chad Allen on vocals, this was before Burton Cummings had joined.

I too really love the Johnny Kidd version.

I asked Randy Bachman about the recording of this song via his CBC radio show (http://www.randysvinyltap.com), and he played both versions and told the story of how they recorded it late at night at a local Winnipeg TV station in 1964.... All of the band members played and Chad Allan sang "live off the floor" around a single microphone. In order to alter the mix they had to physically move close or father away from the one mike.

Bachman had a cousin who would send them a reel to reel tape of UK pop hits every 4 months or so. He figures that is how they learned the song before anyone else in North America. To them it sounded like a Beatles track.

And to keep it RIC content - Chad Allen played a "John Lennon" Rickenbacker on it. Bachman his Gretsch 6120

Sorry George, didn't realize this was a repeat.
