No affiliation, but thought I'd mention this. If this is what the seller claims, it would be an incredibly rare find. Hard to say how useful the electronics would actually be, but it seems the plastic is ok.

Can anybody comment on its authenticity?

Only thing I can add is that it's likely not a reissue PG - no 5th screw hole.

Absolutely authentic, but it looks like it was buried in the bottom of a parrot's cage for a half-century...

Nice that the guard has no cracks, but aside from being more or less complete electronically, this aggregation of super-relicked parts looks to have more curiosity than practical value.

I suppose under all that rust, the pot cases may be original and have the correct part numbers for '57 or '58. I'd hazard a guess that the Astron cap, while correct, is non-functional. The switch is so corroded it doesn't budge and there is no tip and only one (badly-aged) knob.

All guards of this vintage corrode around the screws and around the edges--the IlBronze pigment used in the gold has lots of real brass in it, and easily oxidized over time.

Good thing it has no switch tip----that part alone is worth some big money (>$300) as it's the same type found on Burst Les Pauls....

Based on the early bidding, I think this one's "going to 11."

Wow, where did they store that thing??? I had some old (horse drawn) farm equipment that had been sitting in a field for over a century that was in better shape...

The fellow who sold me V86 also bought this and sent it to me. The pick guard would fit ... if the '58 325 cavity was enlarged. The 4 knob configuration was too wide for a stock '58 325 cavity. My guess is that Lennon's was enlarged too, once the 4 knob config was added in Oct. of '58.

John, do think there's any chance this pick guard and assembly could have originally been on V82 (Jamie Hoover's '58 325)?

To my knowledge, v81 and v82 were the guitars that likely had the modified four-control pickguard (unless the missing v84 has/had one). But it would be hard to say for sure.

Any pictures of this guard?

Well, what I am saying is that this pick guard w/electronics could've fit either a modified control cavity of a '58 325 or another full scale Capri.

Yes, both V81 and V82 were retro-fitted for the 4 knob config at the factory. I'l' have to dig up some pics...

Hmmm...looks like in addition to V83 and V86, you may have a piece of V82 too!
