Hi there, i don't know if it's intellegible from this photos ... it is time to refret ?

Wouldn't he need a fretless to take a picture like that?

I know you were talking angle. In focus would help too, but I did see a dimple in the one.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be a wise guy. I meant take it from this angle with your left hand pulling the strings away from where they pass over the frets.

But in truth, a visual doesn't answer the question. I played my '80 4001 with dimpled frets for nearly 10 years with no problems. If there's buzzing or trouble intonating notes, then it's time. All of that will be a function of individual neck relief and action settings. Since I've always liked higher action for diggin' in, that may have played a significant role in why I was able to avoid the re-fret. By the time I sold it in '97, it needed one.

I just got my 4003S back from a re-fret. Which also required re-finishing the fingerboard. While they were at it, I had them re-finish the entire neck and headstock. The body has been personally relic-ed by me, so I wanted to leave that alone. I like big frets, so dressing was not an option. There wouldn't have been enough meat left. Anyway... I LOVE it! It's like having a new Ric with everything I love about the old one. Third Coast Guitar Service in Chicago. BTW - the guy Bob who did the work actually built Chris Squire's extra long scale 4 string when he worked for Tobias.

Those guys do great work, don't they? They did a fantastic re-fret and fret board re-fin on my (formerly your) 1992 V63 as well.
