The stream of the Washington Coliseum is amazing!
I've never seen the complete show and the quality is really good.

I don't understand the excitement here... seems by now most people who really cared would have bought the remastered albums and ripped them to put on their ipod or player of their choice. If the target market is people who have been waiting patiently to buy 5 or 6 Beatles song's through iTunes... then why the hoopla?

I love the Beatles, I just think it's a bit late... they should have worked it out to coincide with the remasters release.

Have you logged onto iTunes and seen the montage and collateral material?

This, combined with the downloads of the albums, is a Beatles Time Capsule for younger, interested, people.

I haven't seen the collateral material... so that's a fair point. I guess you're right, in that it's for another generation. I can't relate, but I guess some kids get music only on itunes!

What has me scratching my head is where got that complete version of the Washington Coliseum show. I've never seen it before
It has everything from beginning to end credits and the quality is the best I've seen from this show.

The copy I have owned has an incomplete Twist and Shout, no intro and no Long tall sally.

I wonder if Apple records provided them with this.

Yeah, saw the FB announcement and went straight to my iTunes to watch that video! Lovely to see pieces of music history like that!

Watching the video with a bit of a tear in my eye. It's amazing how many things have changed, and how many things have remained the same.

Things that are the same:
•The great tunes
•The instruments: consider that you can still get the same looking instruments today. Rick's 325C58, Höfner's 500/1V62, and Gretch's "King George" Country Gentlemen, and I imagine Ludwig still makes the black pearl set. Yes, there are improvements inside, but you can still get the vibe.
•My memories

Things that have changed:
•Despite all the screaming, everyone remained seated through the concert. I recently attended a Rush concert, and paid quite a lot of money to sit within 10 rows of the stage. As soon as they came out, EVERYONE stood up and remained standing for the entire concert. HELLO! If everyone sat down you could see and hear just as well! My old knees and feet had to get relief, so I sat for several tunes, but couldn't see a thing.
•Stage equipment. It was laughable watching them trying to deal with bad mics, no boom mics, no monitors, poor lighting, and then trying to turn the show to face in the other three directions. They never did turn the amps, just the drum platform "turntable."
•The fans' Brownie cameras, and the pros' Leicas and Nikons, with photographers' right thumbs cranking away on the winders – what ever happened to "winding the film" and "rewinding" well, anything?

No Mono set. Doesn't interest me!

I do think the DC video and montage are interesting touches for younger audiences, but I pretty much agree with Thomas here:

Chop off my head if you will, but that's how I feel.

Some girls I know don't know my favorite Beatles songs: "Day in the Life" and "Day Tripper" because "...they weren't on iTunes."

The Washington concert footage is interesting because they seem to be tuned down a half a step. I wonder if they were saving their voices for TV appearances?

They were also tuned down a 1/2 step for the Ed Sullivan Show. Not sure why.

Have a lot of Beatles material, but never had the whole catalog. Was great to go shopping to fill in some holes where the rain gets in.
