I'm doing a research paper on the history of the 4000 series for my composition class and I'm having trouble finding spots with good info. Mostly I've found company history (not what I'm doing) and price lists with a few magazine reviews. Now I'm not asking you guys to do my work for me, since I still have to write the thing, but if you guys know of any spots with good info PM me or link it here. I'd use stuff on here but the teacher said no forums, hence why I'm asking for links to the info.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

The registry has an extensive photographic archive. There's scholarly threads in the bass section on every model and all production colors. The Smith book has a great history.

Well I'm not sure if my teacher wants pictures. Also, I know about all the great threads in the bass section, but the teacher specifically said no wikipedia and no forums. I even argued that John Hall himself would be a perfect source from the RIC forum but he still said no forums. I pretty much need stuff from print or a legit online source, such as newpapers or magazines. That's where I get stuck. the news paper stuff is rarely any help and most magazine sources have a price list or a short review, not any history.

I think you're SOL. Pick a topic with more definitive/readily available information/statistics?

I'm with JB. Unless your teacher is trying to show you what it was like to write research papers in the Dark Ages, pre-internet...

Rickenbacker's website has info. But yeah, info not allowed from the actual company or recognized authorities on the subject - not so good.

I'm sorry that I can't add to the helpful suggestions that have already been offered, but let me make a modest proposal: Write that report using all available resources (mainly this forum, which has the word "Resource" in its name), then post the result here. In addition to making a widely read and lasting contribution to the knowledge base, you'd benefit from the experience of immersion in true, unrestrained research.

Paper went pretty well and I mostly used this site for assorted references. Thanks for the help guys!
