Ric 3000 on E-bay
I ran into this 3000 on e-bay. It seems quite messed up by the previous owners, I felt pity for it

Better than many pimpos, although it apparently suffers from a durability problem.

Yeah, Fender's famous (or should I say infamous) Antigua finish. This one is not an original Ric finish, I suppose. It needs a good restoration in caring hands

i have to admit the grey "antigua" looks better than the guacamole baby **** color once used by fender.(shudder) in fact i think the color wouldn't look nearly as bad on this 3000 if it just had a solid black pg. (maybe)
edit i guess the most objectionable thing is this thing has a ****** paint job and an emg pickup and they want to start the bidding at $999?! this is probably the least desirable ric bass model ever made.....

I actually like the finish. Looks like a Gibson silverburst. I agree the pg needs to be solid black though. That's an OLD EMG! Def too much $$$.

Yes this is a example of someone ruining a good thing. With all due respect, I am not sure an undesirable label would apply. Yeah they are the cheapest Rics, they are discontinued, the other Rics are the cats meow, all true. Most musicians I show mine too wish they could get one. I read all the time in this forum, "I would love to find one". I can make it sound like an ebo or a growl/treble Rickenbacker. And the short scale is faster for some people. They are well built and when they are taken care of in their orginal state are just cool.

yes, agreed,Paul,i meant no disrespect, and am sure the 3000 is probably a pretty cool little bass-it just seems the pricing on some ricks is more based on their rarity, which i suppose is a valid point. if this model were totally original and in great condition, that price *might* not seem unreasonable.

This is priced too high IMO. However, if it were just a little bit cheaper I'd gopher it.

Its all good Woody, you have good points. Actually they range from $900.00 to $1500 in good condition no matter what kind of pick up. The last sale on Ebay went for an amazing $3000. Not much remains the same.

A few years ago getting one of these in perfect shape for $700-800 was really common. It's weird how they've shot up in the bad economy.
