I am about to order a 4003FL. Does anyone know what kind of wait-time I am about to experience? I'm hoping to have it by the Spring (Apr-May) next year. Am I dreaming or what?

Indeed, you are dreaming. If it's not in distributor stock and a new order is placed, look for it at the end of summer/early fall next year. If it's ordered after 15 January, when the music show begins and the larger accounts place their bigger orders, look for it nearer to Christmas.

John, I always appreciate your straightforward responses. Given NAMM is about to happen, can you also let us know the current status of Cheyenne II 5 strings already on order?

Thanks,

Paul

Check with Mike Parks. According to his list he has one on order. http://www.the-music-connection.com/ricnew.htm#order

Mike,

I've seen that a number of dealers have these on order, however, I haven't seen anything from anyone on production and ship dates.

Was hoping for John to comment on this.

Regards,

Paul

They've been shipping in small quantities for several months now- first ordered, first shipped. The bridges (which were the big hang up) are now in stock, which will allow us to continue to ramp up production of these.

Any possibilities of your redesigned 4001 bridge becoming a real product, John? This would be very much appreciated.

John,

Thanks for the update! Now that these are actually being produced, I can begin pestering my dealer for a delivery date. By the way, it was ordered in May of last year.

Regards,

Paul

I believe the one sitting on John's desk, as he mentioned once.

I've decided to press-on with this order. I'm considering a vintage pick-up versus the standard single coil. Any thoughts on this?

It won't be as loud but it sure will sound and look much nicer IMO.

Ok gang. The wait begins. I received confirmation that my 4003FL was ordered today. I've got my fingers crossed for a Fall 2004 delivery.

Congratulations, Rick!

Like Jeff, I highly recommend the toaster option for your new 4003FL (what finish, by the way?). Though not as hot as a modern high-gain, the transparent sonic characteristics of it will nicely compliment the ambient, deep up-right acoustic bass like sound of a RIC fretless bass. Looks classy to my eyes too.
