I've been auditioning all kinds of expensive boutique compressors, and not one of them comes close to the sound of my Janglebox JB2. I really love the Keeleys, but they just don't capture that "sweet spot" the way the Janglebox does. When I got home from Sam Ash yesterday and clicked on my JB2 again, I was amazed at the difference in sound. Suddenly my guitar was transformed and I reentered jangle heaven!

The JB2 is easily one of the best gear investments I've ever made. My next step is to do some direct recording with my Rick 330/12 and JB2 into my Yamaha AW16G. Should I use the dedicated guitar input or would it be better to use one of the standard inputs? Any other advice for direct recording?

If it's like my Korg decks, the guitar jack will be a different impedance and better suited to the task if running direct from the JangleBox to the recorder. I ocassionally use it, but generally run through the JB and then through one of my amp heads with the speaker output turned off and then through a line out into the deck's normal inputs. I think it may be a throwback to being old, but I really like having some genuine tone and gain knobs to mess with, rather than just the virtual knobs on the recorder. My favorite trick for recording the twelves is to do it twice, similar to a voice mult. You play through, recording on one track, then record another track, playing basically the same thing. Try as you might, they won't be exactly the same and when panned to opposite sides it yields a really nice shimmer, fullness and sparkle. Example:

Thanks so much for the clip and the recording advice. Unfortunately my amp doesn't have a line out, so I'll have to go directly from the Janglebox into my AW16G. I like your idea of recording two identical 12-string tracks and then panning them left and right. That sound clip you sent really captures the jangle and shimmer I'm looking for.

The Janglebox truly is the one compressor I feel does it for me. It not only kicks with a Rick, but it also kicks with a Strat or Tele. Anybody tried a Janglebox with a Gretsch or Vox guitar?

No, but it sounds great with my Strat!

I have the original J-Box, and it sounds good with any of my electrics, but I can't seem to get it to work with AC power (Dunlop AC-Brick) ..it will only work with the 9 volt battery. Anybody else have the same problem?

The originals had reverse polarity from most power supplies. This has been changed back to the more common scheme with version #2.
