I had the "privilege" of meeting Mr. Turner at a guitar store. He may not have been the monster portrayed in "What's Love Got to Do With It", but he was close.
I don't consider much from Motown to be soul, but this one definitely is:

Interesting, that rhythm player with Ike & Tina - he switches guitars, obviously to one with an open tuning, and then plays "overhand", almost as if he were a steel player. Anyone know who he is, or anything about him?

Haven't been able to find any info re: him..cool style though!
Most of the YouTube posts mention the abusive ways of Ike..seems it was not always that way..according to Tina in her auto bio Ike was a nice guy until cocaine took over his life and let loose the demons

For some reason our bass player got them mixed up with another group and called them "Archie Bell and the Troggs"! Tighten up you wild thing!

All of this R&B music, especially the song, "Tighten Up" was a very strong influence on me at a very early age to persue being a bassist. I love this stuff!
