Any thoughts on replacing vintage style Schaller tuners. I had a tuner die on my 1990 381/12. Can I just replace with Gotohs or should I look for Schaller types. Any help out there would be great.

Well, a top of the line Rick should get original-style tuners. I'd go with any vintage style tuner that fits the footprint of the original Kluson type. You can buy a set through the RIC Boutique, or you can go with Schallers, Klusons or Gotohs. My preference would be for the Schallers. Keep the same footprint and screw pattern--if you start messing with this you stand a chance of dramatically devaluing the instrument.

are we talking earlier "vintage schallers" with hex bolt ..like mcguinn limited and some early 660/12tp and townshend ltd. had ?
those are ST6 ...something and those are hard to come by since like mid 90's - your best replacement would be 3+3 tone pros kluson ri with same hex bolt ... pickguardian is the dealer...and if it just one single tuner that croaked and the rest is ok you might find exact replacement on ebay ...or post it in "wanted section"
