Hi,
It's been suggested to me to try and find a non-Byrds song and 'Byrdify' it. I took an old Christmas classic song and gave it my best shot. There are a couple of things I'd change if I had the time, but I wanted to get it out there before the big day. I hope you like it. Here's the direct link to the page:

Yes, I thought it was an intriguing idea, too. I didn't realize that doing a song in the Byrds style would require so much thinking and preplanning, in terms of the various players' styles, the harmony voicings, the arrangement, etc. I admit I was tempted to put in a ChrisClam (tm), just as an inside joke for the diehard fans. Oh, and if anyone wants to know what happened to Crosby's guitar part - he burned his hand right before the session (smoking related accident, 'nuff said). Tom

That is really great, Tom. I might have picked "Angels We Have Heard On High" for the I, vi, ii, V7 changes in the chorus. But Silent Night works very nicely. Thanks for taking the time out to record and post this.

Thanks Jim. My first choice was "Oh come all ye faithful", which I also 'heard' the Byrds doing in my mind's ear. That one would have allowed for some solo McGuinn singing at certain points. Tom

See? Once you're on to it and understand what's going on (like you do) there's nothing that can't be done. Give it a try. I'd be very interested in hearing the outcome.

Ha! Each song is so extremely labor intensive, that I couldn't get another one out before the 25th. Maybe for Christmas, 2011. Another thing is that I probably should lay low for a while, so as not to wear out my welcome here. Of course, YOU could always try one......... Tom

2. I plan to, just as soon as I finish putting together my home recording studio. There are two items I still need: a pair of studio monitors, and a drum kit. I'm really doing things old school, I know. But I'll probably feel a whole lot more competent that way.

On "Sleep in heavenly Peace", you have a perfect Crosby interval on "Heavenly", nice work indeed.

And the beginning of each phrase...has that lovely "Here without you" modal gregorian chant thing going on.

On the "'Round yon virgin, mother and child", the way you run "Mother and child" together as if it were one word...that "Seems" like the something the guys would have done.

And yeah, I caught that "Chimes of freedom" turnaround near the end.

Good job, I enjoyed it.

PS-Rick sounds cool too! (A little "And your "Byrd" can sing" guitar harmony in the solo?!)
