Does someone have the link to the discussion on this handy? If not, I will do my own search but I am terrible with things of that sort.

PS Kenny Howes is really short.

Really? I'm so used to playing Ricks with the full-width inlays now that the smaller, poured inlays seem so dark and small that they blend into the fretboard wood grain. . .

Yeah, you just like them because they never made a 480/81 with FWI...

I don't mind the different size... just want to know why there's never a 1st fret inlay?

Actually, the first two Jazzbo (390) guitars do have 1st fret inlays.

To be able to play the solo, you mean?

Yeah, I know, Sam Cooke's pictured with an acoustic with 1st fret inlay!
Maybe there's some structural reason why there's no 1st fret inlay?

I want to know what the new material is and see some photos. PW is doing the full width conversion to 2 of my 360s and I need some eye candy to hold me over. Seriously, curious about the new material and process.
Thanks.

Thanks, Scott... And notice I participated in that thread. I need to learn my way around this computer stuff. I really do.

Interesting thread. I notice on the old style inlays that Paul demonstrates, he uses a pearl sheet, kind of like a thin pickguard material. Was there ever a time when real crushed pearl pieces(not powder) were used on Ric fingerboards, mixed in with a filler?

I believe it was actually some sort of crushed sea shell that has become a controlled natural material (as ivory has).
