greetings. this will be the start of an interesting journey starting with pics of the donor '75 burgundyglo OK-7272 i got off ebay a few years ago for $700.00 with roadcase and shipping. wanted to document the bass before i slice her up like julien fries. i'll come back to this thread to update it from time to time as things get done. the carvings are too deep to restore without laminating a new top to it, which would look like ****. so...here goes !

What's the plan, Ronbo?

Sounds like you don't want to laminate it, so...Bondo for Ronbo?

even though your house is gonna slide into the ocean someday, i can still spank you, paul !

1-1/2 " thick body wings with a spacer laminate on the rear center section to bring it to same wing thickness like the late '50's combo 450 appeared to be .

Now, that is very cool.

I promise to mention "Bondo Ronbo" as little as possible in future. But, it just has such a pleasant ring to it!

I'm a bit in the dark about where you got "Blue Man"...Oh, those bald-headed guys in the Blue Man Group. Cool!

My house is between the bay and the ocean. The bay is one mile east and the ocean five miles west. Although it's perched on a hill, it's survived since it was built in '55 without a glitch.

yes, i retracted the "blue man" reference as i did not want you to get mad at me and refuse to paint this project !!!

if i ever come to your house, i will yell in "caps" and it will be gone !

speaking of bondo, i did fill in the neck pickup cavity of a marlin EB-3 copy with plastic wood in one pass back in 1974. took days to dry and had tons o shinkage.

Yeah, Plastic Wood's strictly a no-no, although in the '40s and early '50s it had its adherents. Zero strength, awful, brain-damaging smell, maximum shrinkage. Everything you could want in a filling material... I call it a "crooked bookshelf" material, right up there with hot melt glue and Rust-O-Leum. You can find it in the "Guaranteed to Fail and Embarrass You" aisle at Home Depot.

People think, "I want to fill a hole in wood", so what better than "Plastic Wood", huh? Toilet paper and super glue would work better, frankly.

(Not too far off-topic---about twenty years ago, when I did automotive prototype consulting, the guys in one "dream car" shop would take a full eight hours to make one prototype full-sized wheel rim from plastic. Since each car prototype model required 5 of these, a so-called "wheel program" took one man-week to complete, sans paint. My client had one day to do five wheels. I went into a private work room, closed the door and emerged only for lunch. Eight hours after I began, I gave them five wheel prototypes. I built the prototypes out of fast-setting polyurethane resin and paper towels. Worked a charm.

When I left, they went back to making them by the one man-week method. Those guys loved to pad their hours; overtime is what paid for their Mercedes...)

i put it in this section because the grabber thread was moved from "the others" to here, so...i assumed this was where this was to be as well ??? as this will be a project to make something out of something, the end result will be a "quest for tone !"
agreed ?

this is more or less my intention...courtesy of super mario.
