Did anybody experience, or have any idea about the difference in the utility of the Bezels:
1) with cove, 2) with thumb rest, 3) just the plain.http://www.tubeampology.com/2501.html
I usually have the front soft bow of PU-surround as thumb rest. But with 1) or 2) the position is much closer to the PU bobbin and the strings. Is that still comfortable or even better?

I have tried the plain and the thumb rest models, and recommend the thumb rest model (mine is for the flat 4001 type surround, but Frank makes these for both types, flat or scooped surrounds). It's very comfortable and natural. And of course looks much better than the gaping hole.

Thanx for the pics Ilan . As I have an olt type 4001 chrome surround, I also intend to ad a PU chrome cover to match it (less black area). Could the PU then still fit in the bezel?

Ilan, one more question: You once had the 4003 standard bezel, no longer favorite? Why?

I have owned all 3 styles and did a review a few months ago:

As far as getting one that fits a PU with a chrome cover, take some measurements and send them to Frank and he will custom cut a bezel for you at no additonal charge. He did one for the '76 neck HiGain I have in the bridge position on my '08 4003FL and the fit is perfect.

Frank (the guy who makes them) said that this one will fit better, and he was right. The thumb rest is an added bonus.

I should add that this is my son's bass... But I play his bass more often than I do my own Rics, because it sounds so good and I like the chunky neck. Personally I prefer having the hand rest over the pickup, but if the handrest is off, the Bezel should definitely be on there.

I'm getting ready to install some copper foil shielding in my '08 4003 Jetglo, & figured I may as well do the bezel while I've got it apart. If anyone here has installed shielding, please let me know if you have any tips for a trouble-free install job.

My thumb does not need a strictly-defined rest so I prefer the standard version for aesthetic reasons.
