What about neck dimensions?

What about neck dimensions in the register that is. Taken this way (and posibly the girth thing which is popular these days but not very helpfull for me):

(Thanx Ibanez!)

Probably not too many people will cooperate with this. But if it is the neck dimensions spreadsheet which can be found in the bass forum + some others than this could be very helpfull. I hear a lot of complaints on a non Rickenbacker forum about neck dimensions differing all the time and not being able to tell something in advance before buying. (I allways answer that you can make assumptions, but it would be helpfull if we have this figures ready.)

To me, it's called variety. Inconsistency is the great thing about the pre-CNC days. Sometimes you get a gem, sometimes not.

That's the beauty of something hand-crafted. It makes things a pain buying online these days, but hey....all part of the game.

Good luck getting people to measure their necks (or do it accurately!). That is a very nice suggestion though, in theory at least. :)

Well, I still believe that '86 necks are the best. (And I am not counting S models as the 2 samples I have heard off are a lot wider than the binded versions are.) I have 2 '73's which more or less have the same neck width (A in the ibanez model), but one of them is fatter than the other. But lets find out if there are trends or if there are no trends. Both things would be nice to know.

Yep, definitely -- things that make ya go "hmm" :)

Reason enough to keep buying Rics --- to try out all the necks you can! :D

I think I know what I like. And I know I have it. :)

I can add it, but the problem would still remain - how accurate would the measurements be?
If I get an excel or a CSV containing serial numbers and neck dimensions I can put it into the register.

I posted Gill's questions in the bass forum and I did not get the impression there is a lot of interest for such a feature. So it is probably not worth the trouble. Thanx anyway!
