FAQs and Tutorials

Just wondering if the moderators have ever given thought to creating FAQs and/or Tutorials. I'm a bass guy and when I started to maintain my 4003, I was turned on to Joey's Bass Notes. He did such a good job of explaining each set up step (with pics no less) that I found it to be an invaluable resource. As I gained more knowledge, I wanted to learn how to do more advanced maintenance/modification/repair procedures like cutting a new nut, filing new saddles, etc.

I'm curious if we'll ever see something like this on the RRF. A lot of the same questions/issues have been addressed numerous times and it would be nice to have all of those FAQs in dedicated threads. You know, from beginner tasks like changing strings or removing the pickup cover to more advanced procedures like replacing pickups and soldering. I'm sure it would be somewhat time consuming for the individuals compiling this information, especially if they're going to add step-by-step pics, but I think it would be very helpful (and time saving) when searching for a particular subject. Plus, it would give the folks who are just starting to maintain their Rics the know-how and confidence to do so.

Gosh, there are so many informative threads here on the RRF with step-by-steps for so many different aspects of maintenance, repair, upgrading this or that .... restoring this to vintage specs, etc. Where would we begin ?

These topics are spread out on so many sub-Forum topics and over many years.... Many members have been kind enough to post step-by-step pictures of various mechanical processes involved on a task. I guess the only way to proceed is to use the excellant Search function and start branching out onto different threads that come up. i know I have done a lot of reading up on various Pickups and doing this or that to Hi Gains or Toasterization conversions, and wiring diagrams, etc. :D The whole RRF in itself is a Turtorial !!!! It's a wealth of knowledge !

Maybe what we need is just an electronic "Index" to help simplify the Search process ?

Well, I think by identifying what the FAQs are. I mean, there are so many threads dedicated to truss rod adjustment, and so many responses to those threads, that sometimes it's hard to pinpoint where the valuable information is. You know, if someone just wants to cut to the chase and learn how to adjust their truss rods.

I know it would be a daunting task to compile all this info into a bunch of "sticky" threads, but once its done, there would be an index for set up issues, cleaning/polishing recommendations, advanced modification and repair procedures, etc.

I was just putting this out there as food for thought. I'm not trying to shake up anything and I'm sure others have probably thought of this before me.
