Has anyone bought a 2011 or 2010 Ricky and it smelled like gasoline, or some other nasty chemical smell?

I just received a 4003 FG, and it smells awful!!!! Not like the last Rick at all! I want to send it back just for that reason!!

Please speak up quickly, as the clock is ticking...

Thanks!

Have you tried setting the case open in the sun?

The smell is the case, not the guitar!

Thread of the Year. And last year too.

I agree, your problem is with the case. A good cleaning and waxing will help the bass a lot. Joshua started a similar thread recently and found a remedy IIRC. Anyone remember that one?

No, I don't remember. (Must've been there  ) Will sprinkling baking soda in the case help?

Lots of Febreze and sunlight but my case smelled mildewy, not like gas. If it smells like gas I imagine it's some organic compound, like the stuff they put in Scratch Doctor that reminds me of motor oil, and you just need to copiously air the case out. Maybe setting it open outside for a while on a sunny day, like I did, will help.

As someone about to buy a Ric, it worries me that there is something in the make-up of the case materials that is apparently so toxic, at least in odor... Any permanent impact on the finish (and smell! ) of the guitar itself?

I remember my **** was ticking once. Doctor gave me some ointment, now it's good as new!

Harry, obviously this is a unique and abnormal case (sorry, couldn't resist)...if it were common, would it have been posted?

Rick cases are made by a firm that makes cases for lots of manufacturers as well as for the retail trade.

Usually people swoon (in a good way) when they open a new Rick case.

Incidentally, I just bought a couple nice G&G cases for Rick 3330/360s. They smell sooooo good--what lots of folks used to think was the guitar, is the case materials.
