There are articles in the Feb '11 and March '11 issues of VG that are quite interesting with Rickenbacker related information.

We actually tried one today at a local guitar show. I had never seen one before. Pretty cool sound and choice of tone selection.

Do you know what model you tried? There were different 'series' throughout their manufacture.

It was a Tornado in baby blue. Priced right too (compared to later search on Ebay)
The seller was a little insulted for some reason because I thought it was a Japanese build.
