RIHS Surround Mods

I've been moddifying several of the surrounds for these pickups to more vintage specs lately. The mods include shortening the front flange and redrilling it to the current 4003 screw pattern(this way you only have to drill two holes to mount it on your 4001 or 4003). Narrowing the "ducktail" at the rear, and opening up the string slot in the front and rear of the surround so that it matches the diameter and curvature of the horseshoes. Interested parties can contact me via PM for further details. The first pic is a later V63 surround that has has the ducktail narrowed and the string slots opened up. It is schecdules for plating. The second pic is a later V63 surround with it's longer ducktail that will not be plated and won't be having the string cutouts widened. The third and fourth is a re-cut lapsteel surround that has been re-plated.

Just finished cutting a couple more surrounds. The lower one is another RIHS with it's front flange shortened and redrilled to mount in place of a current 4003, and the upper a current 4003 surround that I cut to vintage specs. You almost can't tell the difference between them because the RIHS part has a much shorter rear flange than the original V63 units, and is only 1/8" longer than current 4003 surrounds.

Next go-round, I'll have to send you my stock 4003 surround as well. Looks nice!

Here are a couple shots of a current 4003 surround re-cut to vintage specs on my 4004Cii5 conversion.

I like how you are using strap bolts/mute screws for the pickup height adjusters.

If I can fint thumbscrews with 4-40 threads, I'll replace my adjusting screws for the front pickups too.

Thanks Paul! This will go perfectly with the brass inserts I sunk into the body to replace the wood screw set-p RIC uses.
