Marking Vintage Cases

I've got a problem that I never had before.

Now that I've actually got more than a couple of Ricks, it's sometimes hard to know which case has which one inside. So, for those of you who like to keep your Ricks in cases, the vintage ones specifically, what's a good way to mark the cases to know what's inside?
Yeah, writing with a
Sharpie would work, but I really don't want to go quite that low tech. Same with a piece of masking or duck tape, seems kinda tacky (especially when you want to remove it

)...

Ah, you mean those P-Touch labelers? Cool, we've got 2 of 'em, one hooks directly to the computer too!
I guess I'll have to ask my wife how to run it...
Oh, where do you stick the label? Seems like the tolex wouldn't be the best place with the rough surface...

I put my labels by the handle.

I've also used the Brother P-Touch Label Maker for the tolex cases. Sometimes they stick very well, sometimes they don't.

I got a Dymo LetraTag, their labels seem to stay on the Tolex fine.

Just make sure to clean the spot where you plan to stick it.

I found that both masking tape and stick-on labels fall off so I use strings tags like these from Office Depot:

I think I was able to buy a box of 100 for about $6.00 (Office Depot online has boxes of 1,000(!) but I am sure that they come in smaller quantities). No sticky residue, no worries that they might fall off.

I'll be dreaming of the day when I have so many identical Capri and Combo cases that I will need a solution like this.

Yeah, I've gotta admit, it's pretty nice. I just wish it were a lot more than 3...

I have limited my Rickenbacker collection to 4 guitars and 2 basses so I don't have quite the same problem as the rest of you addicts.

This is what I use too. I use the smaller ones that are like price tags with strings.
I tie them around the metal posts that the handle attaches to.
Easy to put on, easy to take off, no residue or risk of damage to the case.
