I don't know, does owning a Les Paul mean you're trying to be like Slash?
edit: That analogy might be too 'radical' for our members here, i'll use a more age-friendly comparison.
Does owning a Gretsch mean you're trying to be like Chet Atkins?

Good point..But when you see a Rickenbacker 325c64 automaticly John Lennon or the beatles pops in people's minds.

Nelson -- why do you care so much what other people might think about you? That could be the far more serious issue.

Actually, I AM Chet Atkins! AND George Harrison, AND Nokie Edwards, AND Les Paul, etc., etc.! Quite frankly, I'm a little bit of ALL of my guitar heroes. Too bad none of their talented side rubbed off on me, though

To your original question: Yes! Somewhere deep inside you. But don't worry - we are many...
Sgt. Pepper was released in Scandinavia on my 14th birthday the 1st of June 1967... those days I spent hours in front of the mirror to see if I really looked like Paul McCartnet that much. We almost shared faces... at least in my mind

In the real world - I didn't look like him at all - unfortunately - not even Ringo! But then I decided to learn to play - bass actually - and got a violin shaped bass guitar. I still didn't look like McCartney - but from then on I WAS him
Many years went - and I slowly became myself

These days I'm 57 and a guitarist - and I got a few "Beatles guitars" - Ric, Casino (Es-330 actually...), Epi etc. and when I play them I'm still a little bit John, Paul - not to forget George - who wrote some of the best Beatles tunes of them all... So... yes! Somewhere inside we are those great guys - and when we reach out for guitars we are likely to chose the guitars they played

Does it mean I'm inspired in my playing by the Beatles and enjoy their music and try to play their songs as best I can? Yes. Does it mean I've given up any life or playing of other music to emulate them to an absurd degree? No. I also play everything else on my 1981 320 JG. And my 1981 360-12wb FG chkbd. And my 4002. I've played the V series, the B series, the C series, and some of the other "reissue" models. For my playing, I prefer the variants I own, including a J-45 instead of a J-160 and an Epi Alley Kat instead of a Gretch or a Casino. And the only Vox amp I own is a small contemporary Pathfinder for the house, using a Marshall when I go out to play, or a POD 2.0. for guitar; and Carvin head/SWR Triad cabinet or ancient Polytone Mini-Brute 15 for bass.
We all get started emulating those whose music strikes our ears first. Even the Beatles themselves admitted to this. Then they took their inspirations and developed their own style. All the rest of us, if we're true Beatles fans, should do the same. I've tried to.

Did I pick-up a 360 because Peter Buck plays one? Yes!
It's like a footie fan wearing his favourite player's shirt!

The above quote certainly applies to me. Insert The Byrds for Beatles. (Well, Beatles too.) I freely admit that the big reason I settled on a Rick 360/12 string was because of Roger McGuinn. It didn't hurt that I was already, unbeknownst to me initially, gravitating toward his playing style. All I had to do was swap out my thumb pick for a straight pick, shift the metal finger pick from my index finger to my ring ringer, and I was there. My choice in amps is different than Roger's. But turn me loose on that Rick....and well, I've heard the comment more than once; "Man, sounds like the Byrds."
I'll keep on developing that hybrid style of playing, and someday that will be my own style of playing. Indeed, that day may already be here. Because I can't pick up an electric guitar without reaching for a straight pick and two metal finger picks whether the guitar has 12 or 6 strings.

Lessee.....I'm on my second 360. Did I get into them because I wanted to play like Pete Buck? No, although I do like a fair amount of his playing with R.E.M. Did I get into them because I wanted to play like Paul Weller did in The Jam, or Jim Babczak dd in The Smithereens earlier days? No to that to (but also like a fair amount of their guitar sounds). So why do I play 360s?

Maybe I just want something different. Besides they sure look and sound cool!
