I am home - Problem Child

After a lengthy bout with a couple of damaged truss rods, what I lovingly refer to as the "Problem Child" is finally home. Still has some issues on the fret board up around the 12th fret, but finally playable. That is precisely what I have been doing. I am going to have to do some research here on strap locks. I had forgotten how heavy a Ric is. Maybe it's just the way they hang on you. I want the peace of mind. I just entered it on the register, awaiting approval. Thanks to Joey for advice on roundwounds, X-170s. I think they might be the perfect string for this bass. It has the hotter toaster and RIHS, and these strings sound great. I want to thank you all for the wonderful knowledge that you make available on this forum. What I have learned here is priceless, and I continue to learn more each time I log on. The Mrs. took the pics for me, what do ya think?

Nice! I have a 1993 4003s in FG that should look similar once I am done with it.
What are we looking at here? Is that one of those a RM1999's that were for the Japan market? I noticed the two pieced neck, so I ruled out a v63.
As far as weight, my Rics are approx 9lbs. Try a wider strap if you are uncomfortable. Straplocks- yes. I considered not using them in a brief fit of unsanity, but stayed using them.

It is a 1999[yom] V63. One piece neck. Must of been a lighting flaw, shadows, that kind of stuff. I agree about the strap locks. I gotta have em. I'll do some research on that. I don't think that the bass is so much heavy, as it is different to wear. I have not owned and played a Ric since my last one was stolen in 87. I've got a good strap, but I had to shorten it to be comfortable. Bro, I had forgotten how much I loved playing one of these things. It is a joy to play. Just wanted to share. Mark

I too had not played a Rickenbacker for several years and when I finally picked one up again, I felt like I was home. Rickenbackers are hands down my favorites. As far as strap locks are concerned, yes you should use them. I never had them on my 4001 but the 4003 now has them (Schallers) as standard equipment and they are excellent. I was never a big fan of strap locks but now I'd never go without them. The Schallers are so good, I put a set on my other bass.
By the way....that is one beautiful "problem child"!

Thank you Bro. It got that name because of the truss rod problem. The rods have been changed, but it still may have some neck issues. For now, I am just enjoying finally getting to play it. Mark
