I have a cardboard promo poster from that session for the Heaven Tonight LP release. They've had some ups and downs but at that time they were my favourite band after the Beatles.

I saw them on the Dream Police tour in 79. That was the last decent album they made. I even have it on good old black vinyl. My fav is their 1st one, At Budokan, then Heaven Tonight, and then followed by In Color. They were at the top of there game them. Then to much fame came too quick and you are not hungry anymore. By the time All Shook Up came out it was game over. Not even Sir George Martin could salvage that mess.

...worth another look; Zander starts out with a cool guitar, the others follow suit! I always hated those boots Peterson is wearing, but somehow, they sort of look alright in 2011...no, they still look bad!
The concept of a four-piece band, two who are considered hot, two who are dorks, how strange. I remember interviews on Night Flight or some show like that where other famous players talked about that. It was funny. Bun E. is greatness!

Addendum: I still don't know how to put the whole video picture in this forum. Maybe I'll learn one day. It's only been about 3 years now, so probably not...

I have loved the way they rocked it out on the intro to Ai'nt That A Shame. The first time I heard it after the intro when they broke into the opening line I started to laugh. Big build up and then a Fats Domino song. I still have my album copy of Budokan. It was great they they released the whole concert on Friday concert on CD and DVD of the Friday night show which was not the day the classic album was recorded and the whole Saturday show as well.

No argument from me on most points. I'm a huge fan, right from their first appearance on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert in '78, when I first saw them.

Two hair guys, a geek, and a time-travelling sleazix drummer (or "traps" as Bun. E. insisted they be called.) How utterly whacko. I was sittig in my living room in DesPlaines, IL, thinking to myself, "man, California is THE place!!!", and not knowing that these nuts were from Rockford, IL, about 70 miles further into the sticks on the interstate...

I think their earliest stuff kicked the most Jell-O, and, yeah, they had some downs, but they hung onto both their unique style and a faithful fan base. I built a bass for Tom a couple of years back...wonder if he's used it much???

Tom was crazy with the 8 and 12 stingers. That is awesome about building him a bass. Cheap Trick was my first rock concert. It was Moon Martin and the Ravens, Pat Travers and CT as the headliner.

I USED TOM'S HAMER "BUSTED" 12 STRING ON OUR "METHOD TO THE MADNESS" RECORDING. VERY TOUGH TO PLAY WHEN ANDY JOHNS SAYS ..."HERE...RECORD WITH THIS...NOW ! THE TAPE IS ROLLING !" ( AND YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED MORE THAN 4 STRINGS PREVIOUSLY !) LMAO ! SORT OF A GIBSON SINGLE CUTAWAY SEMI-ACOUSTIC STYLED SLIMLINE BASS WITH 3 SETS OF PICKUPS ON IT. OTHERS HERE MAY KNOW THE MODEL TYPE LIKE WAS USED IN THE DON'T BE CRUEL VID. SOUNDED GREAT ! LOVE THAT THICK 450 TYPE THAT ZANDER USED FOR YEARS.

SAW TRICK FOR THE FIRST TIME BACK UP KISS IN '77 IN MONCTON , NEW BRUNSWICK. THEY BLEW KISS OFF THE STAGE ! TOM WAS ONLY USING SINGLE PICKUP THUNDERBIRDS AT THIS SHOW.

( sorry for the caps...i fergetted my promise to "blue man" !) cool amount of post numbers , eh ?

I had a beautiful Hamer B12S for a few years, inspired by Tom. The weird thing is that the best bass sound Tom ever had was his Thunderbird on their first LP produced by Jack Douglas. It was HUGE. It helps that it is one of the best hard rock albums ever made.

I don't think CT have ever actually made a 'bad' album. Still my favourite band.
In RZ they possibly have the best singer in rock today.

Nice guy when you meet him, too. ;-)

Here's some film footage of Robin Zander playing his vintage Rickenbacker guitar.
