There are a few. I recently just met Patrick O'Hearn, he was playing in John Hiatt's band. Nice guy I asked him about his Zappa days.

Great list, and I would love to chat with Patrick O'Hearn - crazy bass parts; sane guy from what I've read. I would add Greg Lake, who has a Rick lineage (see posts in this forum). Just listen to Crimson's 21st Century...guitar solo, and the underlying bass part is just insanely sick. And don't forget the 2nd Impression of Karn Evil 9[/i ] - an absolute marvel in counterpoint at 1/4=200+.
Roger Glover held it down very well too.
But I would be remiss to not mention:

In late '86 my singer and I met Warren Cuccurullo at the Roxy on Sunset one night. Missing Persons' second album was in the can and so was the band. Warren was looking for a new project and my singer was exactly what he was looking for..and particularly cute. So my singer and I, Warren and Patrick O'Hearn (on keyboards)began rehearsing for their new project. It looked good and we had a green light from Capitol on the project too....till Warren got the call from Duran Duran that he was their new guitarist. The rest as they say, is history, and so was our project.

Forgot about Tony Levin. Saw him twice with 80's King Crimson line up on the Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair Tours. He plays a mean Chapman Stik too. You don't see to may people play that much. Greg is great to. He wore two hats in ELP had to play bass and guitar. The first two KC albums with him are great. Good voice too.

I saw Zappa three times in '84 and met Bobby Martin in the lobby after a show. He seemed a little put off that I asked him for his autograph. All FZ's players were top notch. Great story about the Roxy. It seemed weird to me that all Zappa alums made a new wave record, but I guess we all gotta eat and pay bills. Damn Simon LeBon.

Mike Watt is insane. He jams econo. He was married to the bassist of Black Flag for a while and still plays with her every once and a while. Kira was her name. It is easy for me to remember cause it is my daughters name.
What about Gene Simmons? Loved him as a kid. Not a technical guy more a showman and buisnessman. Sting can thump it and sing at the same time. I have trouble just hitting the notes when I am sitting down and concetraiting on what I am supposed to play.

Andy West formerly of the Dixie Dregs. Roger Waters. One Of These Days is so easy but effective. Oh and Randy Jackson, just kidding. I know he can play. I have him on a few of my Jean Luc Ponty albums, but I am sick of him saying "Yo Dog Dog Yo"
