R.I.P. Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith)
R.I.P. Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith)
I was saddened when, at the end of the first episode of this season's Doctor Who on BBC America, I saw the notation, "In memory of Elisabeth Sladen". She passed on April 19th at the age of 65. For those who aren't Doctor Who fans, she played the character of Sarah Jane Smith, appearing as a regular character for three years and reprising the role off and on, including recently. She was the Doctor's companion when I first started watching the series in grad school, and she will always be, to me, the most special companion the Doctor had. Rest in peace, Sarah Jane.

A great talent, and a fabulous companion for the Doc.

R.I.P. - a great companion to the Doctor! And a pretty good actress.

I was very sad to hear of this too...
I was quite a fan of the program back in the 1970s and 1980s... In fact I was on the board of directors of the largest Canadian DR WHO fan club when I was 17, and met with a number of the shows actors including Jon Pertwee...
I was pleased to see her connecting to a whole new generation of fans with the SARAH JANE ADVENTURES... Just last fall she met up with Katy Manning (who was the companion before her in the Pertwee years) on the show...
I think the reason that this has come as such a shock is that she always seemed so young and full of life...

Yes, vary sad indeed. I haven't watched much Dr. Who since way back then (or any TV for that matter), but I remember her well.
R.I.P. Elisabeth, you will be missed...
