I'm new to the RickResource and posted on the Vintage Forum. It was recommended that I post on the Bass Forum; of course! Here's the post:
Hi, I am new to this forum. I usually camp out over at the Beatgear Cavern. I am the original owner of a 1976 3000 bass that was given to me in 1978 when my ex husband and I got a tour of the Rickenbacker Factory. Rick was a sponsor of the 1977 Broadway show musical, Beatlemania, supplying the guitars. Last year, at a gathering in the Seattle area, I got to meet the two luthiers (Dale Fortune & Mark Arnquist) whose very hands built my bass. That was very exciting to meet the makers of my "Little Ricky."

Welcome to the family, Toni! Fascinating story of yours.
There's a 3000 belonging to a forumite in the RRF Register:
http://www.rickresource.com/register/vi ... lebrity%3D
Here's a list of all the 3000 basses (most of them "CI, i.e. collected items that don't belong to any forumites) in the register:

And don't forget to register yours!

Very NIce
Do they sound the same? I'd read the long scale one had a heavy neck. How does it feel compared to the shortscale?

Hi Toni, welcome to the forum, a great place for information, stories, ect. I have a 75 and 76 3000. Love em both, play them everyday. I play short scale basses and these instuments rate very high and have alot of character. Very distinctive, easy to play, even though its been explained, I cannot understand why Rick discontinued them. I do like roundwound strings as they have better sustain. I reside in the PNW too.
Hold onto it.

I put this instrument together from the wreckage of two basket case 3000's and a 3001 neck a couple years ago.

FYI, there's a 3000 RIC bass on Craigslist. Search PITTSBURGH for: MINT RICKENBACKER 3001 - $1500 (Bever County)

Mark, your 3001 is Walnut, the overall application rather than the more common burst style. Pretty!
