Black Flag 1985

Post by Lefty4001 »

First, sorry for the short shorts, but look at Ms. Roesslers boom stick.

This was a time machine video for me. In the fall of '84 I talked my way into JB's Down in Kent, Ohio to see Black Flag. This video must have been from around that time, probably after. They were touring Slip It In at the time and I ended up on Kira's side of the stage, close to her amp. I remember Greg Ginn doing his thing and Rollins being really confrontational, except in between sets when he was hawking spoken word and poems. I know I introduced myself to her, but I was 16, so I'm sure I said something asanine. Still, I loved hearing that Rickenbacker on such great songs. We all got sweaty that night.

I can only recommend them to my bass playing friends, but the "Dos" recordings she did with Mike Watt is great. It ain't for dancing, though.

JB's is still around, Glass Harp plays there occasionally, just like they did in the late '60s/early '70s. 8)

"...but the "Dos" recordings she did with Mike Watt is great." Ummmm...are great.

Hey Jeffrey, I knew I had seen some NE Ohio references in here. I haven't lived in Akron for, well, ever, but all my family is there and we get home from time to time. JBs (up and down) is special to me. Besides the punk shows, lots of friends bands played there when we were younger and the beer was cheap. It was just far enough down Water St. and I think all the weird kids ended up there at one point.

I knew of Glass Harp, but never saw them play. I think our timing wasn't right. One of my brothers and his wife are music superfans and he's probably mentioned GH. There's a club in Youngstown he likes called the Nyabinga (sp? sorry). Maybe they've played there, too. I'm not so familiar with the area anymore.

It sounds great if they are playing JBs. Maybe they can gig with the Numbers Band sometime? :)

Did Henry get that the idea to wear that outfit from Ted Nugents Scream Dream days?
