4001 Serial range

Hi guys, new poster here. Have been a bassist for 16 years now... love my Rickenbackers.

I have owned a 4001 that I picked up from a dealer 10 years ago now. It had a rep bridge put on it and a brass nut, as many back in the day seemed to have. Its a lovely player indeed, in fact the only thing ive liked more is my brand new 4003 I bought to partner it!

Its a bit of an oddity... I think it *may* have gotten a refin at some point in the past, to look like Mr Squire's one, sort of a cream finish. The odd thing is the serial number on the jackplate - VJ 2629. The Ric site has this as being built in October '82, yet the register page says "Valid range for this serial should be from around VJ2669 to VJ2835, please double check the serial". Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers :)

Steve:

Your serial number is correct... It is just that no other VJ instrument has been registered below VJ2669. The RRF registry still has many gaps - although it gets less as we fill in more SN's

Once yours goes into the registry the field will change to "VJ2629 to VJ2835"..

Register your bass and don't forget to add some pictures!
