Dubbed the Unluckiest Man of Soul, the death of Sir Lattimore Brown, at the age of 79, has recently been announced. It appears the onetime singer, songwriter and band leader retained his lifelong habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time right to the very end - for he was struck and killed by car while crossing a road in Pensacola, Florida.
Little remembered now, Lattimore Brown often shared the stage with many of Soul’s most popular performers throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s. Performing alongside the likes of Etta James, Jackie Wilson, Muddy Waters and Otis Redding to name a few.
However, the most remarkable and least known thing about the life of Lattimore Brown was the catalogue of bad luck and misfortune that continuously dogged him. You really have to feel sorry for the man.
