In the April issue there is story of the 65 hottest bases we should all play. The # 1 bass turned out to be a Rickenbacker 4001/3; they showed a photo of a 4001C64.

Cool, I think they should have showed a more conventional model, for the non-rick obsessives! :D

I guess it's good that this is a UK magazine, where Ricks are hard to get anyway. Otherwise the backlog would be up to 3 years in a few weeks...

Congratulations, RIC!

Over 30 years of trying out any bass I could get my hands on led me to the same conclusion.

We knew that already! Add the 4004 along side them, at least in my copy! :)

Funny thing is they interview Geddy Lee!

He states how he's not really played it for a long time, how he struggled to get a good sound.....and how they tried it recording 'Snakes & Arrows', but decided it couldn't offer anything that the Jazz couldn't without a lot of hassle!

Hardly a ringing endorsement! :(

I'd have thought should have interviewed a player who still uses them??

And then to use a photo of a C64??

Well done Bass Guitar Magazine.
By the way,Ricks are not that hard to find in England.
Check out Forsyths Manchester.

Its literally down the road from my place as I am also on the A556 Manchester to Chester Road thanks to the Romans and their logistical genius.
If you see anything that you want checking out I will pay them a visit.

I don't believe everything I ead in those magazines. Sounds more like Geddy is justifying his use of Fender basses. Must go with the territory of endorsement.

WOW, $2800 USD for a 4003??!! You guys have my sympathy.

At least the UK knows which bass is the desired one. Yea for #1!

Exactly. Which is why $3500 for something vintage isn't too pricey UK-wise.

And continental European's like to buy in Britain because it is cheaper there with pound/euro exchange rate.

And, to top it off, Geddy is on the cover holding his Jazz Bass.

I figured that was intentional, so as not to give away number one in the countdown. I thought it was kinda cool, actually, in a smug sort of way!

I think I can actually hear why a Jazz could be better for Geddy's sound so maybe he really did have issues getting the Ric to work for him in the studio. But I really don't care for his tone! Funny that he's so often associated with Rics.
