Nut width

Hi there, need some advice.

I’ve owned two Rickenbackers in my time but have tragically had to let go one them and looking to do the same with the second.
First was my 620 12 string. An astonishingly beautiful waste of time, couldn’t even play major chord shapes without damping strings. Nut width just far too small. Tried it as a six string with high strings removed and still too tight. (traded for another brand 12 string)

The fit and finish stayed with me though so I went for a 360 six. Better certainly but still just a wee bit too slim on the neck at the nut.

Still hooked on the guitar but I just can’t get the music out of it with my chubby digits

I know that the 660 model has a larger nut and I may well have to go that way but my question is, are there any hollow-body Rickenbackers available with 6 string and the nut width of the 660.

Questions following a negative on the above… why not??

Questions following a positive on the above… Where can I get one and will they accept trade on my beautiful 360 FG?

Cheers
Pat.

380 is semi-hollow with a wide nut.

As Ken said, the 380L is a semi with wider nut. However, I think it is a discontinued model and you might have a tough time finding one in a store or arranging a trade. You might be able to find one by posting in the "wanted" section of the marketplace, which would also be a good place to sell your 360. However, to get access to the marketplace you'll have to hang around for a while and run up your post count.

In terms of solidbodies, the 650 and 660 both have wider nuts than the 620 and 360.

As of this moment (10:30 a.m. PDT, June 1, 2011) there is a 380L on eBay from Olivias Vintage. BIN for $2,590. Not the piezo version, though (I think).

Thanks very much.

I'm off to Ebay to have a look and hope that they do international freight.

Hmmmmm, am i being picky here?

Really want a tailpeice, scratchplate and sharktoothed neck.

What about 381V69 does it have the wider nut???

May have to sell my house or out my 6 week old son out to work to afford one but we do need to make the odd sacrifice don't we :) .

Cheers
Pat

Nope, the 381V69 has the same skinny nut as the 360, etc.

Currently, the 660 would be your only option.

(sigh) I'd love to see a 1.73 nut standard on RIC instruments.

Me too

I'm not saying we should rob our skinny fingered friends of their favourite instruments though.

Maybe introduce them as an option for all the tubbers and chunky fingered frettists.

Oh well....

You can always get a bass, instead.

Welcome, Pat, from a bassist who can play those skinny, little fingerboard geetars, just fine. :D

Pat,

I agree with you about the tailpiece, pickguard, and inlays but what do you think of this one?
