Neck width.. if you could

If RICS were available..
with the standard width neck.. or the 660 width neck. - Your choice!
Any day of the week.. just a standard model option.. . No cost difference. .no delay
.. just pick the one you prefer.. right off the shelf..
I wonder what the ratio would be ( especially for 12 strings )
There's been many comments.. from:
.. too narrow. (ie. just can't bond with a 12 string RIC.. neck is too narrow )
.. just fine..
.. OK - learn to deal with it.. narrow makes you find new fingering approach.. find new chord voicing . etc etc. -
.. ya. .can get a 660.. but prefer semi-hollow body for 12 strings..
I wonder what the ratio would be if it were simply a matter of choice:
Just Pick the one you want
After all this time.. I'm going to guess many RIC enthusiasts would just get the narrow neck anyway..
but : ???

660 neck on a 360 OS for me! I love the extra room on my 660/12 TP.

360 neck = 1
660 neck = 1

Should have made this a poll.

Well, this is difficult to answer. Mainly because I've never even seen, let alone played, a 660. That said, I've never had any problems with the width of Ric necks as they are, either 6 or 12 string versions. So you can add one more to the 360 column.

I nominate Scotty to keep count.

I'd go with the narrow neck, which for me is a feature, not a bug (I have smallish hands and fairly skinny fingers)

The narrow neck doesn't really bother me that much. I haven't played a 660 in a long time, either. If I need any extra room, I can add a new nut to my 360/12V64, which I probably won't.

I've never played a 660/12, but the neck widths of my 1991 330/12 and 2010 360/12 are both very comfortable for me. The 360 has tighter octave pairs for more finger room between pairs (I understand Rick started doing this in 2005.) I prefer the semi-hollow bodies to the solidbodies and, as silly as this sounds, I just don't like the looks of the 660. To each his own!

That's the idea.. no right.. no wrong.. not wanting to go down the debate/road of: a bug or a feature..
which would you prefer.. If just left purely to yer druthers... and it was as easy as choosing ketchup or mustard on your hot dog.
.. any model any color.. ( 12 string )
( I've never done a poll format post.. . probly shoulda.. but at this juncture .. we got: )
"standard" size neck/nut width: 5
660 size neck/nut width: 1
* not the model 660.. just referring to the width of neck/nut

I had a 660 and really liked the neck. I would absolutly buy a 360 with the 660 neck, best of both worlds! I would still keep and rock my 330 as well. Rickenbacker made a cool one-off like this, in gun metal grey with black hardware I believe. I would order one of those the day it was available and glady wait the 2 years for it to be made!

For a 6 string the smaller 360 neck's okay, for a 12-string 360 the wider neck might be a good idea, though.

First Rick 12 I ever tried for about 3 seconds I declared unsuitable for me because of the neck size. Much later I'd heard about and bought a 660/12. Much later I bought a '66 360/12. THAT is a small neck, But, with a little getting used to, I find the thinner '66 preferable. Same goes for my 6 stringers. After some mental adjustments, I love the thin necks of my 360's and 1997's over my 650 (and Strat!). In my case, as well as (IMO) a lot of others, one has to get over that first reaction. I'm not the worlds greatest lead guitarist, but anything I can do on my Strat, I can do on my Rics, and I don't look like everyone else doing it!

I prefer the narrow necks, but can tolerate variation in front to back thickness. I have a '64 375 that has a narrow and thin neck. I like the way it feels and plays. In the middle there's my '96 WB 12-string that has a very slighty wider neck, but with a lot more chunky feel. I like it, too. At the far other end is my 650 which I have some trouble with. I'm not sure if its the width or the flatter radius or both, but I have a harder time playing it than my others. This all comes down to personal preference and/or comfort.
I should also not that my playing is primarily rhythm. You do not want to hear me attempt any lead playing without adequate hearing protection...
