Is this correct??

"This guitar is in pristine condition and is one of the finest examples of a Mid-60's Rickenbacker you could find anywhere. There serial number is embossed on a sticker then covered in lacquer. Which was a method used by Rickenbacker from late 50's to the early 60's as a way to signify a custom built or prototype guitar."

This came from this E-Bay offering:

I haven't heard of that. Is that correct?
