I recently had a pickguard made by a luthier using Cyro Acrylite Acrylic Sheet. At first glance things look right, but if you look closely, it does appears that it is a little too translucent. Most notably, albeit faint, you can kind of tell where the route connecting the pickup and harness is. I think I remember read about painting a thin layer of lacquer to help decrease the transparency, any recommendations on what to use?

Find ordinary gloss white spray lacquer at Ace Hardware...they sell it for furniture and appliance touch-ups. It MUST say "lacquer" on the label. Don't use any enamel or especially not Rust-O-Leum! Latex based paints are out, too.

Lay the guar5d face-down on a piece of newspaper. Shake the can for a minute and spray light, mist coats on the back of the guard. Go for about 20% coverage and do 5-6 coats with a ten-minute break in between.

This is important: Let this dry for several hours before fitting it back onto the instrument. Overnight is best.

This simulates the look of the older guards, with some depth but a bit more opacity.
