IIRC, Iron Butterfly passed on Woodstock because their demand to be flown in on a private jet at the promoters expense was denied. They probably regretted that later.

Creativity- what a trip! I think I remember the early 70's... but there are gaps, even today.
And btw- Our lead singer back then interpreted the "unintelligble" lyrics mentioned in the webpage as "Oooo woncha crumble me, anwak diss lann", but he tended to need about a half dozen Singapores before he could sling it....

Singapore Slings? That's dated...
These have been replaced for the last 20 years by Long Island Iced Teas, in the Conquering Hero's bag of tricks...

Yup.... True dat. but in 1971, we tadpoles in those days thought Slings were simply the bee's knees! There was also a thing called a "Brandy Alexander". Three of those and it didn't matter to me what the lyrics were supposed to be!

DJs used to love this song as they could take a pee, smoke a doobie and have some coffee and the thing would still be playing when they came back in to the studio.

Well, they didn't exacty pass. They had a gig the day before and were stuck in New York City. I think if they had driven close by, let's say to Wurtsboro (on Route 17) then maybe a helicopter could have picked them up.
Helicopters were picking up bands from Monticello and Liberty.
It's amazing all the (other) acts were able to get there.
I drove up on Friday and the Thruway was not that bad. Traffic didn't really start until we hit Rt. 17B.

I sit corrected. Just goes to show one can't believe everything one hears on FM radio, specially if one heard it over 35 years ago and one can't remember what one had for breakfast.
