Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my '72 4001 Fireglow with you all. My dad got it back when he was in his high school band: Beowulf, out of Havertown, PA. I don't know where he bought it, but he is the original (and sole) owner of this beauty. I hope that you all enjoy the pictures, and feel free to send me any information or insights you may have about the bass. I'd love to know more of her history. :)

Cheers,
-Zack

Hi Zack, and welcome to RRF. That is a beautiful and valuable bass. I hope you play, and if not, start learning ! ;-) Take good care of it- don't trash it. I am sure others will start to chime in after they wipe the drool off their keyboards. Start hanging around here and you will learn alot about RIC basses and what makes your bass so special.

Chris

Welcome Zack.

That's a really nice example of a highly desirable bass. Your father obviously took very good care of this bass, and this is a much sought after 4001 in that condition. Basically, basses before mid '73 have features that the majority really like. Full width sparkle inlays, checkered binding, toaster pick up, and the slotted tailpiece that does not lift or bend.

Add it all up, with a wonderfully aged Fireglo finish, and that's what you have in front of you. Take very good care of it!

Must be early '72 - 1-piece neck, walnut wings...even flat Grovers. All it needs is the tugbar...

That is a real beauty.

The serial number on the jack plate reads LC 214, which places it in 1972. My dad has always referred to it as a '71, though. In any case, as Jeff and Kevin have noticed, it has a lot of the features from '71, so my dad wasn't too wrong. :)

You can also see it - along with the rest of my dad's stuff - on my site: http://www.groffguitars.com. I hope that I didn't break any rules by giving you a link to it! :o

Thanks for all the encouragement about my recent enlistment in the RickResource ranks here. This is a great resource for all of us!

Cheers,
-zg

I am surprised the MODS have not noticed; I saw this yesterday evening.
