I can't locate te thread where someone mentioned a published Byrds song book that is now out of print. It was described as having chords and tabs to the leads. If anyone knows the name/ author/ publisher can you please let me know.

I plan on getting some feelers out to see if I can locate one.

That's the book that I have and I think it's pretty good despite not being too deep. It's accurate IMO and gives a good guide for the songs presented.

The one I believe you're looking for is out there but is out of print. It's called "The Best of The Byrds" and the publisher is Wise Publications. That's the one Don gave you the songlist for, and the one Matt mentioned (although my copy has a different cover).

Aside from that, I know of absolutely no Byrds tab books. It's about time that someone got their act together and published a comprehensive one. I've had to search ultimate-guitar.com, but most of their Byrds "transcriptions" are very oversimplified.

Ebay is always the way to go. Sure it takes some time, but you'll find what you're looking for.

Sorry for a thread drift (maybe not?), butI found songbooks for Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedoes, Hard Promises and Long After Dark on eBay, all of which will be appearing at SCARF. The first two smelled like they had been in bars and studios, smelling heavily of cigarettes with coffee stains (particularly Torpedoes) while Long After Dark smelled like an old book. They gave all the chords accurately, and had some interesting photos of the bands' growing Rickenbacker collection from '78-'83.

What we really need is something like a Rob's To A T series for the Byrds.
Try as I have, I haven't been able t nail 8 Miles High in several years of trying.

Nobody has, and nobody does in all actuality. Even Roger changes it up every time he plays it. All you really need to do is get that "India" theme (for lack of a better label), and understand the modal scale, take off with your own ideas, and Bob's yer uncle. I know that's an oversimplified explanation. It's the best I can do over the net on a forum.

It's still sort of a bucket list dream to nail it note for note, but not high up on said list.

I think Guitar Player magazine years ago had a note-for note transcription of Eight Miles High. It was pretty good.

Let's not forget the tab book that comes with Roger McGuinn's DVD "The 12-String Guitar of Roger McGuinn." It includes some detailed notation for the "Eight Miles High" break, which, as it turns out, is based on the blues scale. Still pretty tough to play it at McGuinn's speed, though.

That's largely where I lifted the .png file. It is simplified, to be sure, eliminating the finger picked passages.

OK thank you! But guess what?- I wasn't able to find it at anywhere in small Michigan resort towns this weeked. Why wouldn't that surprise me?

For those of you who own this book, can you tell me, does it have all the lead tabs. or just the chords? I'm mainly interested in the leads since I already know all the chords.
