Mildew smell from case

I was wondering how a mildew/mold and odor can be removed from a guitar case . I spotted some of this on the white piping on the ends of the case of a newly acquired guitar. The case is some sort of vintage case. It may be inside the as well as the guitar itself has the same odor but much fainter. I hope it isn't in the control cavities of the guitar.
