Happy birthday to Ringo, one of the steadiest hands on the drumkit.
Listened to all of Ringo's Beatles songs on the iPod today for the occasion.

I agree. Like a lot of people, I was for many years rather dismissive of Ringo's abilities. But lately I've been going back and really listening closely to the Beatles for the first time in a long while, and have come to realize just how much he contributed. (Case in point: Ringo's work on "She Said She Said" is remarkable). Happy Birthday!

I still maintain that Ringo was the best player in the band for the first three years. They were all amazing and continued to expand and explore but listening to the BBC stuff it's Ringo that track after track impresses.

I'm sick and tired of musicians (particularly drummers) slighting Ringo. No, he wasn't the best songwriter in the band, but he was the right drummer for the Beatles, and, in many ways, he helped them reach their musical vision. "She Said, She Said" is an excellent example of how much he influenced the band's sound. Happy birthday to one of the seminal drummers in rock music!

Indeed. How many bands do you know that can edit portions of takes of any particular song from different days together for the final release other than the Beatles?

Tom Petty has said Ringo is a human metronome, steady as a rock.
In addition to SSSS and other great drumming bits, listen to (or better yet watch the Washington D.C. video) of Long Tall Sally. Smoking!
And IMO he never did a stupid fill. Every drummer I've played with, no matter how good, eventually does a stupid fill.
