Ric-wise anyways

I've been a bit of a churchmouse here of late, as I sold my Rics a while back. No big drama, I had gotten into the collecting thing a bit too much and decided to shed in order to concentrate on playing more. I won't say whether that decision paid any huge dividends or not , but it did lead me to discover I missed that unique Ric-ish sound, and my favorite little double cutaway body style.

So, deciding to reengage, I thought I'd try something a bit diff this time around (my first Ric was an '05 350 FG). So I talked to the guys at the Music Zoo about a Midnight Blue 350--and they (as surprised as I was, I think), delivered within about 6 weeks, LOL...

One thing I thought was interesting, and I have to admit I was a bit surprised at, this 350 came with the Repro Sta-Tite tuners that were standard on the 325c58 models. Guessing Ric had some extra parts left over from the discontinuation? Not a big deal to me, as I was accustomed to them having owned several c58s, but I'd guess for a new buyer unaccustomed, they might be a bit surprised at the "technology" in their new guitar...

Congrats Bill.............you seem to have a thing for all shades of blue. Nice 350. I quite like those tuners, but I have a strong preference for vintage Klusons.

Jake, don't hate me, but no, I sold the 325s... I found myself being more of a Beatle collector than a guitar player, so I wanted to shift my environment a bit.

The Jag is a '62AVRI I scored off a guy in Canada. My first Fender offset was an Ocean Turquoise Jazzmaster, which I also sold a few years back. The Jag was my first choice, but the JM was the guitar available. Good news is I later scored another JM (they're very different guitars, despite their body shapes), and then found this little jewel.

LOL, thanks Brian....You got my best blue guitar though!! No worries my friend--she's in the hands of who she was meant to be--someone who can truly make her sing. Try as I might, the best I can usually manage is some level of bearable noise....

I do like the tuners--I've owned several c58s, so I was quite accustomed to them--their tight little tuners. Still, like you say, I'd imagine some buyers unfamiliar might be a bit surprised.

I don't care, I never cared for short-scales, anyway. I'm just glad to see you've got a Ric back in the stable. Do I hear a 660/12 calling your name?

I want a Jazzmaster badly, either a '66 MIJ block/bound neck in Candy Apple Red or a AVRI Thin Skin in Fiesta red, but due to the joyous funds that is tied up to Delgado Community College I won't be getting one for a while.

I don't think you ever saw/heard, but I bought a guitar on June 6, 2010 that I know will get you going: a '63 MIM Classic Telecaster in Olympic white. It's my most recent guitar purchase (none sold, either) and I was happy I got it. There's something about Teles, as you very well know. It's on the right, with my trusty '62 AVRI Strat next to it.

Very cool Jake--Tele's rock--literally and figuratively.

I still own more Teles than any other style guitar...current inventory includes a '52AVRI, a LPB Standard Tele (mod'd with a Wilkinson Compensated 3-Saddle bridge), a MIM '72RI Thinline, and a Rice Custom stealth Esquire.

To me, they are the simple perfection of an electric guitar.

Too funny Bill. Your old guitar has been used quite extensively on recent recordings. It has shared duty for lead and also for rhythm work. Beyond the sentimental reasons for buying it, that Strat has become a real favourite of mine as you could probably have guessed.

Btw I got quite a shock when I read the thread title the first time...................I thought you and your wife were coming home. It would have been great to have you two on your way back home.

Wow! You sold off your 325s so you could simplify and focus? That took real character. The new one is nice consolation - very pretty.
