ScratchX on the whole guitar?

Is it recommended and are there alternatives for a hazy finish? A pre owned guitar arrived with several hazy spots and what looks like the case (vintage) liner pattern in the finish on part of the back body. Also, the neck doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Fine scratches or marring are visible in one area too. I tried ScratchX and Zymol and it helped but not completely. Thanks. :D

Don't know if you're referring to gloss level or clarity of the varnish when you say, "hazy".

If it's gloss level, then you'll have to have it buffed or try it yourself with some Perfect-It 3000. If it's cloudy varnish, there is no reliable cure except a refinish.

Hi Paul,

I think it is at the gloss level. Where would someone get a guitar buffed? I wouldn't trust myself to do it even if i had the equipment.

I'd suggest talking to a local luthier, Dan.

Try contacting Steve Soest at (714) 538-0272. Although he's not a finisher, as one of the top repair guys in the West, he has his finger on the pulse of the luthiery business in So Cal, and could direct you to someone who could help you.
